Children ages 7-12 are invited for an exploration into Earth’s deep past at Edelman Fossil Park’s first GEO Explorers Summer Day Camp. Embark on a voyage of discovery with Rowan scientists to discover how the fossil quarry in Mantua Township may hold clues to the mysteries of dinosaur extinction. Examine 65-million-year-old fossils and receive an authentic Field Guide where you will log your field experiences daily. Engage in workshops to learn about fossils, rocks, sediments and plant life native to this region. Descend into the fossil quarry where you will dig for (and take home!) your own fossil specimens in an adventure of a lifetime. All camp days run through Monday-Thursday from 8:30am - 11:30am.

If you are undecided what week your child can attend, purchasing a Gift Certificate does guarantee your child(ren) a spot in the 2019 Geo Explorers Summer Camp. Please check which week(s) you would like to register for. You may also choose ‘undecided’ and select your week(s) at a later date. An Edelman Fossil Park representative will contact you by March 1, 2019 for your selection.
Snacks and Water:
Campers should bring a healthy snack to enjoy during our mid-morning break. Please send plenty of water with your campers (no juices or sodas please, as they can dehydrate the children in the heat).
About Our Staff:
Camp sessions are limited to 60 campers and our camp boasts a low 10:1 camper to counselor ratio. All workshops and hands-on activities are led by Rowan scientists, Fossil Park volunteers certified in our programming and advanced Education majors at Rowan.
About Our Outdoor Location:
GEO Explorers camp takes place on the grounds of the 65-acre Edelman Fossil Park (in Mantua Township behind the Lowe’s at 625 Woodbury-Glassboro Road, Sewell). Rowan acquired the site in 2016 as a fossil research and educational outreach facility with plans to build a world-class natural history museum and visitor center, nature trails, a playground and other amenities.
Until construction of our buildings is complete in 2020, camp sessions will take place under large tents on the grounds as well as in the fossil quarry itself. We have plenty of shaded areas, cooling misters and lots of extra water on hand during all summer events. Daily activities are held as scheduled unless of a threat of thunder and lightening.
Registration and Camp Fees:
All fees include a field log, a camp t-shirt and a fossil ID guide (and the fossils campers find in our quarry!)
Weekly Camp Fee: $185
Once you register for your event, you will receive from Rowan University a confirmation email with your payment and registration details. You will also receive an email containing information for your event, including directions and parking for Edelman Fossil Park.
