Introducing Your Early Child Education Students to Yoga and Mindfulness: The Benefits and the Strategies

Drawing from the award winning Yoga Child curriculum and the Anhs Anger children’s book trilogy, Yoga Child founder and author, Gail Silver will teach us how to incorporate simple mindfulness exercises, magical meditations and some basic yoga poses into our school day. We’ll begin with experiential introductions to yoga and mindfulness that allow us to understand what it means to be a mindful teacher before moving onto an exploration of how these joy-filled practices benefit children and can improve the climate of our classrooms. Ultimately we’ll kick off our shoes and have some fun as we learn how to engage our three through eight year-old students in the delights of movement and mindfulness.

Target audience: All educators who engage with pre K through grade three children.

Presenter:  Gail Silver, E-RYT, JD, is the founder of Yoga Child, an award winning organization providing school-based yoga and mindfulness education to children, and teacher training to educators.  Also the author of the Anh’s Anger children’s book trilogy, an enchanting series that illuminates how mindfulness can help us navigate our stronger emotions, Gail enjoys teaching others how to share mindfulness through her narrative-based fiction. Anh’s Anger was the recipient of The Skipping Stones Award for Multicultural awareness, and Yoga Child the recipient of a Parents Choice Award for its original mediations and music. Prior to becoming an author and yoga instructor, Gail was a child advocate attorney, practicing in Philadelphia PA.
